Spring Break Dreamin'

So, what ever happened to being a little girl dreaming of the day where I actually would be old enough to go to MTVs' Spring Break!? Watching MTVs' Spring Break every year would always make it seem so easy.. "Well, I am in college now..I am on Spring Break.. I might as well pack up my bags..grab my closest 20 girlfriends.. withdraw money from my 'unlimited' bank account..and head down to Cancun". If only it were that easy my friends!
Instead of partying all hours with beautiful girls, men, and tequila.. I am stuck working two part time jobs, my Jeep is in the shop getting fixed, and I have so much work to do! Fun Spring Break huh?
I guess I just fell victim at a young age of MTVs' representation of Spring Break. I wonder, do these Spring Break party animals even attend college?! As glamorous and fun as it seems to be there, or ANYWHERE.. it can't all be factual!? Can it?
I very much doubt, MTV would get skyrocketing ratings if they documented what most of us College students really did on Spring Break..like work, sleep and homework!? But..Oh well..maybe VH1 will come out with a reality show called 'Office Break'? And it will show company workers taking a week off from work so they can party in Aruba! Then..I will have something to dream of once more!

  1. I can't speak what it was like watching MTV's Spring Break as a young girl, but I can as a young boy. I always thought it was strange, everyone yelling and screaming on some sort of beach. It always struck me as weird. Come to find out it really is like that in places. This actually makes me never want to go to a place like this, is seems really stupid. I can't imagine just getting drunk and yelling at the camera on a beach. I also hate the beach. I realize I may be in the minority, on both accounts.

  2. I never wanted to go to Cancun, but I did always think I would go somewhere every spring break...somewhere sunny...somewhere warm. Instead, 4 of my 5 flatmates are away (2 doing the spring break thing in Ft. Lauderdale, 1 still getting to drink in Montreal, and 1 at least somewhere fun, NYC) while the 5th and I are in our hometowns. So I guess 2 of my 5 are evidence that at least 2 of those Spring Break party animals attend college. I think they should document us. Document me, here, on my couch in my family room, with the tv on mute cuz I'm concentrating on HOMEWORK, with it sounding like cars are driving on wet roads outside.

  3. I actually agree with you Brian. The older I got and the more I saw what was happening on that series, the more I despised what type of people where on my TV. College kids have fun and do some less than reputable things from time to time, but the things I've seen on MTV are degrading and disgusting. I once saw men pouring tequila over almost naked girls and then a partner tried to catch the spilled liquor in a bucket and drink it before time ran out. Seriously? who comes up with this stuff...

  4. Yes.I too long for the days where I could dream of going to perform Say What Karaoke on some beach somewhere.

I remember being a kid and even then tihnking that some of the people on the show were douchey, even though I know I find it hilarious

  5. I was just talking about this with a friend of mine the other day. I think as good of a story it might be, I would get tired of a whole Cancun/stereotypical spring break situation. After being around drunk, egotistical college kids for a whole week would get very old. It's funny the way that these people will go down there, get drunk and end up on a girls gone wild or the internet and completely regret what they were doing. Even on the MTV shows, how do you look back proudly and say, "yep, thats me getting my whip cream bikini licked off by a complete stranger." Don't get me wrong, I would rather be on the beach with a beer and my friends than in a Mass snowstorm, but I don't think I could stand being in that environment for more than a day.

  6. I also remember the mtv spring break shows from the past as well and how ridiculous they were does kind of shy you away from the stereotypical Cancun trip. I went to St. Thomas in the Caribbean earlier in the year and would much rather do something like that on a spring break trip to hit the beach and relax. Especially with the entire kidnapping situation going on in Mexico as well it does not seem like my cup of tea even though im stuck in New Bedford in 30 degree weather.

  7. I never wanted to be the person on mtv sprng break...that is just embarrassing! haha good luck going on a job interview after that! lol Ya I agree it hasn't been much of a fun spring break, still have lots of work to do, and actual work, meanwhile I do have proof that some college students acually go away. For instance my friend is heading to panama city in florida where spring break is being held! tomorrow with about 20 of her closest fellow college friends! I just hope she comes home in one piece!
