B R I D E Z I L L A OR.....?

'Are you going to be a Bridezilla'? is a question I have been jokingly getting for the past several days when people learn of my engagement. But, the term 'Bridezilla' is a fairly new term which I don't even remember when my sister got married five years ago. Ultimately, the term is referring to a difficult bride. I believe that the term has gained popularity due to the reality television show 'Bridezillas' which debuted on WE channel television in 2004. The reality show follows the lives of engaged women, casting their busy schedules in an insane and humorous way. It portrays how these women who are about to be married face several different tasks, and strive for perfection for their special days.

Whatever happened to the old traditional weddings? Not that I am not excited about the abundance of wedding information, but it seems to have really changed over the years! Instead of going to that one Bridal store in town, I am faced with stacks of Bridal magazines five inches thick full of beautiful wedding gowns by famous designers (that cost thousands of dollars!).
There are also tons television shows and documentaries on demand dedicated to planning your wedding, the most recent one I watched was 'Platinum Weddings'.
Ooh and forget my e-mail! Just by asking for more bridal information on any website, I am now swormed with tons of e-mails from different companies competiting for my business!

There is also so much to worry about now unlike the old days, ceremony, flowers, pictures, limos, etc. maybe sometimes old fashioned would have been easier? With all these things to worry about and obviously you want them to be perfect.. then YES! I probably will be a BRIDEZILLA!

  1. Haha, I've heard this too. I even felt like one when I asked my LADY of Honor to check out a DB near her. However, she was really cool about it, saying she would start on her LOH duties this weekend. Plus, I was only asking her so that she can make sure the people working there are cool since she's the one who's going to be dealing with them (she's in L.A. and all my other ladies will be getting their dresses in Framingham).

I love watching Bridezillas tho'. It has to be my fav. wedding-related show next to the Disney wedding special that was on WE cuz our wedding consultant was on it, haha. It just makes me feel better because I was getting sick of watching Say Yes to the Dress and all the girls going, "I found the one!" when the dress I want to wear is still at my cottage and I haven't tried it on since I was like 12. I haven't even looked at any of the magazines because of those crazy expen$ive dresses. I want to use my grandmother's dress, and if it's not that, I'm thinkin' I'll do the running of the brides. I'm not about buying a really expen$ive dress I'm only going to wear once...even if it's my wedding dress. I always change the ch. when Platinum Weddings comes on too, because I don't need to see stuff I can't afford, lol. I feel bad enough that I'm going to have a confetti explosion at the end of the last dance, but I'm going to get the money for that on my own, so whatever, lol.

Ugh, and I know the e-mail thing. My fiance and I went to a bridal show and now I get e-mails from all of the vendors there. Thank gawd I gave them the e-mail address my friends and BSC don't have otherwise I'd never see their mail! We even just signed UP for aNOTHer bridal show, never even went, and those vendors STILL got my info.! It's wicked annoying because we're getting married in Disney, so the only thing I'm interested around here are rings (and I think we found our guy at the one bridal show we DID go to), invites, and formal wear.

Oh, and Men's Wearhouse at South Shore Plaza is great for renting tuxes in case you're interested! :)
